Choosing Thursdays

Every Thursday after interval all the children from our school go to  their Choosing Thursday activity. The children from Rooms 1 & 2 go to a variety of activities.  These include: cooking, pom pom making, board games, re-cycling and art/crafts and construction.  Below you can see the different activities we can do in art/craft and construction with Mrs Moses and Mrs Brown.  It gives us a chance to try something different and to work with children from other classes.  In Room 1 and 2 we can work together to build structures, create art and play drama games.

Jump Rope 2016

On Monday, we practiced our skipping for a good cause as the school did a fundraiser for Jump Rope for Heart. We went around different stations where we skipped, jumped over an elastic or did a variety of circuits. It was fun!  We all brought along a gold coin to help towards the research of Heart Diseases.

The Fairest of Them All - New Zealand Playhouse

Last week, the  NZ Playhouse came to give a performance of 'The Fairest of Them All'.  This was a play about Snow White being trolled online by the troll under the bridge. We laughed, clapped and waved our arms around as Snow White got the dwarfs to trick the troll so they could get her computer back.

St John's First Aid School Programme

Max from the St. Johns came to visit us today to talk about First Aid.

He played a game with us called “Who do you ring?” Max showed us pictures of different situations, where people were hurt eg a house on fire, a house was broken into.  We had to tell him what number we would ring and who we would ask for eg police, fire brigade or for an ambulance.

He showed us a picture of an ambulance and talked about what was inside it.  Max showed us a stethoscope and an oxygen tank/mask and we got to put them on.

We now know what number to ring if we are in an accident or if we saw someone needing help and what department to ask for.
Here are Noah and Evelyn dressed up as St. John’s helpers.

Finally Max read a story called “Trouble in the Backyard.  It was about Sam and Andy who were playing in the garden when suddenly Andy had an accident and Sam had to ring for an ambulance.

We hope we are never in a situation where we will have to call for Emergency help but having listened to Max from St. John’s in School we feel we are more prepared now.

Thank you Max for coming to talk to us.
